Employee communication
It would be a shame if readers were misled by "The art of employee communication" in your special series "Mastering Global Business" (AFR November 25).
Employees crave more face-to-face
The benefits of effective employee communication, consultation, and surveys are highlighted in "Survey talks up AWAs' value" (AFR, Work Space, 21 November). This is no surprise to those enlightened executives who regularly conduct confidential surveys of their employees.
Gen-Xers prefer to work in town
"Return to centre", AFR January 9, highlights the "cosmopolitisation of the inner suburbs" in most large Australian cities, especially by Gen Xers.
Learning opportunities not work-life balance best for retention
Attracta Lagan, "Work Space" AFR January 4, does an outstanding job of highlighting the workplace shift with employees and potential recruits now judging job opportunities on the basis or "life fit rather than status and remuneration alone".
Money does not motivate and retain
"Money alone won't stop revolving door" (AFR, May 8) highlights that "involving employees in setting the business agenda" can improve employee retention. Research shows this is true, but reveals other vital aspects.
Problems with 360 degree surveys
Certainly it is helpful that "Managers learn how others see them" (AFR 13 October). But my research of thousands of Australian employees in recent years reveals that 360 degree feedback surveys can't always be relied upon as accurate.
Teleworking
Your "Telework: nice in theory" and "Trust me boss, I'm working at home" (AFR, October 20) were spot on.
